about

This is a song that started life as two songs, one about there being nothing new under the sun and the futility that comes from trying to create, from the point of view of a person trying to create art, and the other a Gilbert & Sullivan-esque romp through the land of easy rhymes called "Epistrophe Apostrophe," which resulted from listening to a lot of Thelonious Monk and sitting in a garage. Tom Gee was a cousin of mine (Ben), and probably unrelated to the story about the memorial obelisk slipping into the Trinity River, but I attached him to it because I wanted to include him in a song, and I hoped he would have thought it was funny.
